Riverside is probably the largest quarter of Pavis, both in area and populations.  Running along most of the eastern side of the city, by the wall above the River of Cradles, it is home to riverfolk of all kinds, but its narrow alleys and poorly built shanties are also home to a lot of the city's poorest inhabitants as well (and its least law-abiding).  The normal stench of the city fights here with the smell of fish from the markets.  Riverside is the most vibrant and exciting part of Pavis, and also the part where you are most likely to get your throat slit.  The watch and Lunar patrols only enter in squads, especially at night.

It is also home to two of Pavis' main daily markets - the Fish market and the Meat market, due to proximity both to the river and to the bridge where herd animals are brough across the river from the nomad camps on the other side to be slaughtered.

Riverside Gazetteer

Fish Legs

R-1

This is a tiny, decent, middle-value inn which offers reasonable accomodation and excellent fish stew and grilled fish at reasonable prices.  Owned by the Ingilli family.  Rough behaviour is not tolerated in the bar.  It is normally sold-out well in advance.

Gerak's

R-75

The only troll-run inn in Pavis, and targeting mainly a troll clientele - normally Argan Argar merchants visiting Pavis from Trolltown, although the trollkin of the watch are also found here when off duty (there is a separate bar for trollkin and a Xiola Umbar protectoress who will bar dark trolls from entering it.

It serves a wide range of troll drinks, and food, including some that are frankly very unwise for humans to sample.  There is a smattering of human clientele - they are certainly not discouraged although the atmosphere is necessarily intimidating for humans.  Mostali and elves are very definitely not welcome (or rather they are, but only on the menu).

Rooms are 100 bolgs a day (trolls sleep during the day), and come with an exciting range of vermin that can serve as early-morning snacks.

Ingilli's Boat Yard

All riverine traffic and activity takes place under the aegis of the Ingilli Family, and that includes building, selling and hiring boats.  There isn't one boat yard in Pavis - various boat builders exist along the river bank, but they all produce boats for the Ingilli family, and will only sell or hire via a representative of that family.  Hence prices are consistent no matter who you approach.

Wood is a rare and precious commodity in Pavis, especially wood that is good enough for boat (or house) building.  The nearest source is The Garden in the Rubble, but the Aldryami get very aggressive if you try and cut their trees down.  The only other source is the forests of Dagori Inkarth to the north, but that is troll territory, so logging there needs cooperation from the various troll clans.  As a result, most of the boats on the River of Cradles are built of reeds, which are plentifully available.  Reed boats normally require considerable repair and rework every year though, as the reeds rot and become waterlogged.

Price List (to buy)

Newtling reed boat: 4-6 metres long, normally crewed by 2 newtlings, and can carry another 8 newtlings - 25 Lunars

Three-person reed boat: wider than the newtling boat to provide more stability.  Can carry up to three people - 35 Lunars

Ten person reed boat: suitable for either people or light cargo - 100 Lunars

Coracle: small and hard to manage, but easily transportable and made of animal skins over a light wooden branch frame - 5 Lunars

Riverboat: a shallow drafted wooden cargo ship suitable for riverine transport.  Around 10 metres long, it can carry up to 5 tons of cargo and requires a crew of 8 - 250 Lunars

Riverfish Inn

R-122

This small inn mainly caters to riverfolk.  It is reasonably priced though, and fairly clean.  The bar is popular with porters from the Fish Market.

Rowdy Djoh Lo's

R-129

The clue is in the name...  Rowdy Djoh Lo's (named after the eponymous owner, a Teshnite who has lived in Pavis longer than anyone can remember) is the seediest and most dangerous tavern in all of Pavis.  The watch turn a blind eye and ear to anything happening here, and as a result, almost anything goes.  The drink ranges from undrinkable to actually quite nice (with a price range to match).  If you want someone killed, or to fence some hot property, Rowdy Djoh's is where you go, especially earlier in the evening.  By midnight, the entertainment has normally kicked off, which will normally be a bar fight of some kind.  It is the only establishment in Pavis that welcomes trolls.

In the basement is the premiere rubble runner fighting pit in Pavis, and large amounts will be wagered on the weekly competitions here.

Price List

Date Beer: 15 clacks a pint

Local Wine: 1 Lunar for 1/4 pint

Clearwine: 4 Lunars for 1/4 pint

Lunar Wine: 3 Lunars for 1/4 pint

Powzie: 20 clacks/bolgs a pint (non-Troll customers must sign a waiver)

Godswater: 2 Lunars a shot

Teelo Norri Poorhouse

R-94

The Teelo Norri Poorhouse, run by the Lunar Seven Mothers' cult of the same name, provides free accomodation and daily gruel for the truely penniless in Pavis, and the only cost is having to listen to the constant Lunar proselytising.  The building is basically a kitchen, a large dormitory for the guests and some small cells for the Teelo Norri sisters that serve here.
